I got the chance to chat with the cast of the Street Fighter movie ahead of its theatrical release, and almost all of them are game for a crossover film with Mortal Kombat. In May 2026, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon posted about wanting a Street Fighter guest character in a Mortal Kombat game, saying he was a “huge fan” of Capcom’s flagship fighting game franchise. Given that Mortal Kombat II released in theaters earlier this year, I had to ask the actors starring in the Street Fighter movie if they’d be willing to throw down with the likes of Shao Kahn to protect Earthrealm alongside Liu Kang and co.— and the consensus was a resounding “yes.”

In fact, Andrew Schulz joked that he was trying to make this collaboration happen with his viral joke at the 2025 Game Awards, where he famously took shots at the cast of Mortal Kombat II. “This is what we were trying to do at [The Game Awards]!” Schulz told me. “We’re trying to set this thing up!” “That’s what we were trying to do,” Cody Rhodes added. “Tell them I know Noob Saibot which is [Ed Boon's and John Tobias'] names backwards,” Eric Andre interjected. “...but a crossover? A Flinstones/Jetsons crossover? We’re in. Let’s go.” Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Callina Liang were also enthusiastic about the idea. Koji specifically mentioned Marvel vs Capcom as another possible crossover opportunity… though the likelihood of this particular partnership happening is looking astronomically low. “Hell yeah,” Koji said to the Mortal Kombat idea. “I said yes, because I’ve got friends in Mortal Kombat.” “See, he’s got friends that worked on Mortal Kombat, so he’s trying to play nice over there,” Centineo joked. “I love the girl who plays Kitana,” Liang said. “I’ve met Adeline a few times. She’s awesome.” “That’d be sick,” Koji continued. “But then there’s Marvel vs Capcom. We’ve gotta tap into that.” “I’m down for Marvel,” Liang agreed. “Here’s what I want — I want more Street Fighter,” Centineo said. “If you bring an opportunity to us to be able to come back and reup these incredible characters, I’m down, and I know we’re all down. So if that’s Mortal Kombat, if that’s me kicking Thor in his face, you know?”

Of course, a Mortal Kombat x Street Fighter film might be a bit tricky, given that Mel Jarnson plays a character in both movies. I asked her about the possibility of such a project on the red carpet at the Street Fighter movie premier, and even though it’d be a bit of a challenge, she was more than willing to take on. “It would be epic!” she said. “And you would bring Nitara back to life. Sew her back up. She’d be like half-blonde, with a wing. Half-Cammy, half-Nitara.” For now, it remains to be seen if there’s real potential for a wacky crossover movie with these two fighting game series — but if the stars align, everyone seems pretty enthusiastic about it. And given both franchises’ wealth of guest characters and crossover games over the years, it wouldn’t exactly be uncharted territory.

Street Fighter releases in theaters on Friday, October 16, 2026.
