PlayStation has released a survey that any adult member of the public can fill out, and players are using this opportunity to push back on Sony’s plans to end the production of physical game discs. The open survey contains questions regarding customer satisfaction with their PlayStation 5 console, covering aspects like exclusive games, user interface, game performance, online play, the DualSense controller, and the overall library. Players are also asked to list all consoles they own, including those outside Sony’s ecosystem, such as the Nintendo Switch or Gaming PCs.

While none of the survey questions directly address physical media, fans are using the open feedback sections to bring up the topic. Many fans are hopeful that this public engagement is a sign that PlayStation and Sony are showing some hesitation toward their plans to kill physical game discs starting January 2028—a choice met with significant backlash since its announcement in July.

This sentiment was echoed after reports surfaced that PlayStation had also sent out a survey to game developers. Speaking on the Broken Silicon Podcast, host Tom noted that this developer survey was one of the biggest ever received from PlayStation, suggesting it might signal some hesitation from Sony regarding the discontinuation of physical discs.
